The Weaver Family Webpage: Happy Birthday Avery!

Our baby turned one! Miss Avery had her first birthday on June 15th and is officially a Big Girl now! Since we are still in the midst of trying to close on our new house, Avery kind of got the shaft on having a sweet first birthday party and we ended up doing an impromptu celebration at Scott's parents' house (our temporary home) on Friday evening. Now, if you know me, you know that I am (admittedly) an OCD, psycho, party planning freak show, so not having the opportunity to do that for Ave's FIRST birthday, was a major bummer for me. But instead we had pizza and cake at Scott's parents house, then dunked the birthday girl in the baby pool to hose all the icing off of her. The following day we made a trip to Funchester to visit the Pitotti fam and have a little celebration up there as well. So I guess she didn't really get the shaft since she sort of had two birthday celebrations! At least that is what I am telling myself to feel better about dropping the ball for the second child.

Turning one also meant Avery was due for a well baby check up and of course, shots... oh joy. We had her One Year check up on Monday and the little chunky butt's stats are as follows:

Weight - 21 lbs, 10 ozs (40%)

Height - 29 inches (46%)

Head Circumference - 18.6 inches (90%)! Apparently big headed babies are a Weaver gene!

In addition to all the usual check up stuff, our pediatrician also encouraged us to ditch the pacifier during the day and make it a night time thing only. She thinks that Avery will start saying more words if we don't have her plugged up with a paci all day... I mean, I certainly don't want to delay her speech, but seriously, being a teacher and a mommy, silence is golden sometimes!! So we will see how the daytime "no paci" rule goes. I've also decided that moving into a new home and ditching the paci isn't enough change for one week, we are also going to start enforcing the sippy cup hardcore and hopefully ditch the bottle altogether. Yep, our parenting strategy this week is go hard or go home... not that we actually have a home. But that's a whole different story and a whole different post for me to write about.
