The Weaver Family Webpage: Life's a Beach!

We are back in Roanoke after a wonderful week of vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with lots of great family and friends. My mom's side of the family has a tradition of the entire family going to the beach every other year as sort of a mini family reunion. Traditionally, we go to Surfside or Murrell's Inlet just south of Myrtle Beach, but this year we wanted to mix it up and try something a little bit more remote and peaceful. Avon Beach in the Outer Banks was the perfect location. So this year we managed to drag 32 family members all the way down there, (and that's small compared to some years!) We had family from all over the country (Texas, Arizona, West Virginia, South Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia) make the trek and it was great getting to see so many family members. For a lot of them, it was the first time they had ever seen Addison. Speaking of the princess, she absolutely loved the beach!! It took her a day or two to really warm up to the ocean, but after that she was all about it. She enjoyed playing in the sand, loved being chased up and down the beach, and had such a great time playing with all of her little cousins that were there. Addison was even a trooper on the drive down there and back and hardly fussed at all in the car. Since she has such a love-hate relationship with her carseat, we were worried it would be seven hours of endless crying and screaming in the car. Luckily, she sat back and enjoyed the ride (and some Yo Gabba Gabba on the DVD player... best investment we've ever made!) While we were at the beach, we also managed to squeeze in a family birthday party for several of the family members with July birthdays, as well as a baby shower for two of my cousins. Overall, I think a great time was had by all. We can't wait for the next extended family beach trip in 2012!
